Course information

We refer to this course as a “Nature Guide Course”, but this type of course is also referred to as a “Field Guide Course” or a “Safari Field Guide course”. All of these are appropriate. This should not be mixed up with with the term “Game Ranger” as this is entirely different to a Field Guide.

This course – like most of Afreco’s other nature guide courses – is for any Nature Enthusiast to join. It will offer a unique lifetime experience of the African wilderness which you would not get from a ‘normal safari’. On this type of guiding course you will have the added bonus of learning more about nature and gaining an insight to the day in a life of a Nature Guide.

This provides a platform for any candidate to gain personal life skills and experiences for the future as well as a fun filled learning adventure. The course will focus heavily on living with nature and inspiring future conservationist to try to create more awareness and gain support for conserving our Earths dwindling natural resources.

The course might be set in the African bush but it will open your eyes to wildlife on your own backdoor wherever in the world you might live.

Target Group

  • Budding Field Guides
  • Nature & Wildlife enthusiasts
  • Adventurous types interested in learning more about the African bush and its wildlife

This course is open to any person serious about pursuing a career in Nature Guiding as it is an entry level course to become a nature guide. Either for local citizens or Internationals looking for FGASA Field Guide qualification or for both. The course is designed to not only introduce, but also to mentor interested candidates into the career as a professional nature guide.

It is equally open to anyone not looking for the official qualifications. However, joining the course will require you to take the course seriously and respect those who are studying for their careers.

This option is for qualification in:

  • NGTB/BQA Level 2 Vehicle Nature Guide
  • FGASA Field Guide (NQF 2)

Please note: For the official qualification this course requires a 30-day home study period. However, if you are attending for the experience only and are not too concerned with the official qualification then this is not required.
