The horse and conservation course is
for anyone who has a passion for horses and wants to
experience and learn about the African bush. You
will spend your days caring for and riding the
horses on the reserve amidst plentiful game, whist
also taking part in a well-structured and extremely
informative equine and conservation course. This
will teach you all you need to know about the
African wildlife and conservation, together with the
vital aspects of the equine care.
I had the most amazing time in South Africa! It was
one of the best months I've ever had. I honestly did
not expect it to be as good as it was, it was
perfect. I met some wonderful people, the horses
were fantastic and I learnt so much. Millie is so
friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and right from
the start made us all feel welcome. I honestly
couldn't have asked for a better time.
Thank you so much, I will upload some pictures as
soon as I can.
This programme is run by a mother and daughter who
are passionate about horses and wildlife. Millie
(mother) and Rhalda (daughter) run a stable yard
that has 11 horses at present, some of which have
been rehabilitated from traumatic backgrounds. The
project is based at the foot of the Northern
Drakensberg Mountains to the West of the renowned
Kruger National Park. The
project is situated down a dirt track, 12km from the
town of Hoedspruit, set within an extremely peaceful
and natural area in the Limpopo Province of South
Africa.
The project is geared to a relaxed outdoor lifestyle
where people, wildlife and horses mix freely in the
African wilderness. They have a ‘work hard, play
hard’ attitude. Many volunteers return each year,
and they have employed two previous volunteers
permanently on the farm to help support the
programme.
