The guides on
this course are some of THE BEST and most
experienced in South Africa, in high demand for
their guiding services. This is great value for
money and will not disappoint!
Afreco offer this
experience as a basic life-in-the-bush and basic
ranger skills course. From
identifying trees, learning animal behaviour and tracking skills to using the
stars to navigate your way through the bush. The Eco-Awareness Course is a
participatory bush experience and is definitely for anyone wishing to have a
unique and educational experience of what the bush is really like.
This is more of a unique safari experience than a
really serious course and is open to anybody who is
fit and healthy, those enthusiastic about nature or
the African Bush and for those with an adventurous
spirit!
The courses
for 2010 are running
in South Africa only and should return to Botswana
in 2011
The camps in South
Africa are adjacent to Kruger National Park
and part of Greater Kruger. These camps are in the Big 5 Kleserie Game
Reserve area with no fences separating Kruger
and Klaserie allowing for freedom of movement
for the game in the area. Set in a stunning
part of the South African bush along the
Kleserie River this camp offers an
authentic, rustic, yet comfortable experience
of the bush. Please scroll down for images of
the camp.
During your experience, you can
expect to participate in the following activities;
these are not in
any particular order:
Walk/drive combination
introducing the principles of guiding and 4X4
driving
Animal Behaviour and Tracking:
Your guides will decipher the
tracks and signs left by the passing animals during
the night. The thrill of walking, tracking and
getting up close to one of the creatures of the bush
is an unforgettable
experience. On the walks there is a lot of emphasis
on all the interesting things seen such as the
trees, plants, insects and birds.
Bird Identification & Behaviour
Plant Identification & their
Cultural, Medicinal, and Environmental Roles:
Identification, their uses
and the role they play in the environment. Learn how
to treat various medical conditions out in the bush
as local residents have done for decades. Explore
the bush and learn how each tree is linked to all
levels of the environment, how the bush communicates
on all levels.
Tracks, Signs, and Approaching
Potentially Dangerous Game
