About the course
The Wildlife Workshop is aimed at people who don’t
want a guiding qualification, but would like to
learn about the bush and enhance their own personal
knowledge. The workshop covers many interesting
facts about astronomy, birds, mammals, plants,
tracking and animal behaviour.
They are hosted by guides that want to share more
than just their knowledge of the big five. The
guides are internationally sought after for their
expertise and have guided in many African countries.
The courses are offered in areas adjoining the
Kruger National Park, ensuring a wide variety of
wildlife and habitats. Courses are also arranged at
other locations at the guest’s request.
These workshops offer guests the opportunity to
experience, learn and explore the natural
environment with top guides and photographers.
The camp is in South
Africa
and is part of the Greater Kruger National
Park; sharing all the game from Kruger. You
can expect to see most of the Big 5 here (we
frequently get Big Cat sightings, especially
lion) as well as many other game species. Set
in a stunning part of the South African bush
in a comfortable lodge, this trip offers an
authentic, rustic, yet comfortable experience
of the bush. Please scroll down for images of
the camp.
During your experience, you can
expect to participate in the following activities;
these are not in
any particular order:
Walk/drive combination
introducing the principles of guiding and 4X4
driving
Animal Behaviour and Tracking:
Your guides will decipher the
tracks and signs left by the passing animals during
the night. The thrill of walking, tracking and
getting up close to one of the creatures of the bush
is an unforgettable
experience. On the walks there is a lot of emphasis
on all the interesting things seen such as the
trees, plants, insects and birds.
Bird Identification & Behaviour
Plant Identification & their
Cultural, Medicinal, and Environmental Roles:
Identification, their uses
and the role they play in the environment. Learn how
to treat various medical conditions out in the bush
as local residents have done for decades. Explore
the bush and learn how each tree is linked to all
levels of the environment, how the bush communicates
on all levels.
Tracks, Signs, and Approaching
Potentially Dangerous Game
Survival and Navigation The lecture will be focused
on survival and navigation.
How do you find water in the middle of the bush...
Learn how to identify which plants are edible.
Start a fire.
Make rope or twine with “bush supplies”.
Learn how to use the stars and other natural
phenomenon to navigate your way through the bush.
